quick road to riches

‘quick road to riches’

it’s a notebook
scarred and stained
with scotch
but that never kept me
from pushing my pen
across those pitfalls.
i wish you’d root me on
daring my creativity to dry—
it won’t.
you won’t.

a few measly bucks spent on the spiral
as paychecks brim only with
the investment of dreams
we can’t cash in;
i wish you didn’t think me a failure
because then we just might be rich.
