november in chicago
(thru the thick and thin)
and like the boughs we are stripped
of our flesh in a hurry of colors;
the north wind does not tolerate secrets
nor does it allow the preservation
of our dna under layers;
we have lost daylight savings losing
that savior of selves while our
own feet trample veins of what once we were—
born to seasons our deaths come by hours
and without interlocked fingers we are prey
to the gust and conditions
left cold
so cold.
