SAVIOR
Man of Steel
why won’t you come down from
your perch high above Metropolis
save me
I have desperately tried to fly in your cape
but you left me no field guide and
in this world I need to be more than just
a hero
Do you remember when
I gazed upon you with wonder
an unflinching conviction that you were no
mere man
Please can’t you see
how hard I struggle to soar and
I’ve no currents with which to take flight—
a cry
And from my booth I dash
carrying this child in my arms
shielding her from life’s evils, forever
her guardian
imperfect savior;
to the skies I search in vain
bemoaning mine.

A heartrendingly beautiful poem, Joe :}
Thank you Nina 🙂 Bruises and all, I still run from my phone booth… 🙂
I do love your poetry, Joe. It never fails to stir emotion in this reader. This poem is no exception.
Thank you so much, Tom, that’s very kind of you 🙂 I just write, I never make a conscious effort to stir emotion in anyone, let alone myself…but I do think that may be the trick. Emotion is a raw, unpredictable beast, after all 🙂 Thank you for your support!
Such beautiful agony. You two are so blessed … each one saving the other.
Thank you knidly, Ms Raven’s Lady 🙂 Yes, that is me in a nutshell…beautiful agony lol 🙂 Thank you for reading!
Wistful and filled with despair … And yet so beautiful. Is despair and longing always beautiful…or is the raw expression of those is what is beautiful? 🙂
Hello Rachna! Thank you for reading! And you’ve left with me my own beautiful question to ponder. Trust me, ponder I will…
I appreciate all your support! 🙂
within this world of chaos, I think the hero is the one who knows he is just human being the best he can and being true that calling
as you question, do you feel the imperfection as what perfection really is…
I enjoyed your thoughts….
Take care….You Matter…

Hi Mary, thank you for reading ‘Savior’ 🙂
I simply believe that some people are cognizant that they are meant to be more; perhaps that makes them a hero from afar
🙂
Thank you very much, Annie! 🙂
